“She had flowers in her hair
flowers in her heart –
so if you’re forgetting all the ways
that life is beautiful,
go and find her –
she’ll be somewhere in the forest
by the sea
or in the garden
waiting for you
to come and see”
Most of us are aware of our five senses: touch, smell, taste, sight, hearing.
Less often considered are the senses of our souls: intuition, peace, foresight, trust, empathy.
Through all of these “signals”, we form our impressions of the world around us. There are differences in how each of us use our internal and external senses.
Some function deeply from heart, emotion and intuition while others lean into logic and reason.
Universally, we are imprinted by fragrance on a deeply resonating, often unconscious level. Certain scents comfort us, make us feel safe, long for home, miss someone, or make us feel like baking…
What we know is that these fragrant “impressions” speak a language all their own, saying what words can not, and lingering in our hearts far beyond our brief encounters with them.
Only love can last beyond fragrance. Only music comes close to transporting us through time.
Soft rain and a crackling fire today. Candles have been lit since eyes have been open. No better way to start the season than refreshing your candle supply and ordering a cord of wood.
Wherever fall finds you, we hope you are creating memories and rituals in your home as well as for loved ones that will stand the test of time.
